The municipality of Guiuan, led by the former mayor and vice mayor, Hon. Christopher Sheen Gonzales and Hon. Susana Lourdes Gaylon, organized a 2-day learning visit on the town’s journey from recovery to resilience for Commissioner Rachel Anne Herrera and representatives of the Climate Change Commission last August 25-26, 2018.

During the first day of the learning visit, local government representatives and their partners shared community initiatives and the major outcome of their Climate Change Adaptation Framework (CCAF), proceeding to the formal turn-over of Guiuan’s proposal for the People’s Survival Fund (PSF) which was received by Commissioner Herrera. The proposal has been submitted to the PSF board for assessment.

Their project proposal entitled, Guiuan Integrated Climate Resiliency and Adaptation Project (GICRAP), is a two-year project focused on addressing food insecurity strategically through sound and balanced management of ecosystems and secure resilience of water resources in the municipality to cope-up climate-induced risks in mainland Guiuan. These are in line with the results and recommendation from the municipality’s CCAF.

The local government had partnered with Ecosystems Work for Essential Benefits, Inc. (EcoWEB), RAIN Foundation, Cordaid-Philippines, Zoological Society of London (ZSL), Visayas State University (VSU), and the Guiuan National High School (GNHS) in the implementation of the major activities of the project.
